Almost Here

If I knew about the Yankees coming to town, I certainly didn't remember, Dear Roxy. It's been a while since they posted the schedules. And why are you questioning the kind of fan I am? Anyway, I'll be planning on catching a Yankee game down here while you watch your Sox on the tv! Heheh.

Speaking of baseball, this I'm sure I just found out a couple of days ago. The WBC will be played at Dolphin Stadium! It'll be during Round 2, so hopefully Team USA will make it far enough where we might be able to catch a game. Interested?

I heard Manny rejected a hefty 1-year multi-million dollar contract from the Dodgers. That guy is so overrated anyway.

I also heard your boy Tom limped down the altar and married Giselle. Blah.
Oh, speaking of the Oscar's, don't know if you watched it or not, but I recommend Slumdog Millionaire. You might like it - not that we ever agree on movies or anything...

What's on T.V.?

I turn on sports radio in the a.m., and I'm bored to tears. This is the worst time of the sports year. I am so desperate for one of our seasons to get going, I find pleasure in just viewing this ridiculous picture of Youk. I have hit such a low point that I have gone online to look at Oscar pictures I could care less about (actually, my brother swore a couple was married, and I wasn't sure, so I looked it up). P.S. The Oscars were a snoozer. I didn't last long watching.

I've also been watching the Westminster dog show. Um, House Hunters, cable news ... Countdown to spring training, baby!

What was interesting was hearing Jim Calhoun freak out when a reporter was grilling him on his salary. I dunno. I'm not sure his salary is a big deal. All the college coaches with huge programs get paid well because their programs bring in crazy cash. I mean, the story is boring. Let's not turn him into a Wall Street CEO who gets paid 500% more than Calhoun would if he lived to be 500.

You totally knew the Yankees were coming down here. We blogged about this. And if you only just found out, some fan you are. That was one of the first things I checked, but the Marlins play up in Boston, not here. Darn!

Over it

I'm with you on the whole "done with ARod drama thing." Unfortunately, the sports news are inundated with ARod talk so I really haven't been paying much attention to sports in general. Can you tell me what's going on out there, Dear Roxy?

This also happens to me between the end football season and the beginning of spring training. I'm just not big into basketball unless I go to a game. Luckily, it's only a few months between football and baseball season.

Speaking of baseball, I'm going to try to make it to a Yankee spring training game in Tampa. Are you joining me? It'll be fun! You can be the random girl with the "B" baseball cap who everyone is throwing peanuts to. Think about it.

I just found out the Yankees will play the Marlins down here! Woo-hoo. I'm there, too!

Good to See Familiar Faces

Wow, your post was straight from the NY Post, Dear Criss! And while you're standing by your men, I'm happy to say that I am ready to move on from the latest installment of A-Fraud bashing. I'm sick of all the steroids. I like my brother's idea: Let's have a Juice League vs. Normal League. Imagine that world series.

And then there's Brett Favre. I forgot until I read your post, but I really think it's final this time. Oh, Brett.

You know, as every year this time, it's really weird having no football to watch. (And I can't find the Sports Illustrated for the week of the Super Bowl, it's driving me crazy.) I guess that's what spring training is for. I'm looking forward to those sunny days (except last year) walking to the stadium in Ft. Myers. Everyone's happy, smiling. Children are skipping, birds are chirping, folks had a few too many and are sharing their personal stories with you, and you're never sure if you should bring your sweater or leave it in the car. Then you regret your decision, either way, but can't go back to the car.

I've had a really bad cold, so sorry I took so long to drive you crazy again. I've been in bed for daaayyys. But I'm doing better, and there are fewer tissues strewn about. What a drag.

Until next time.

Steroids

Here’s another reason for you to hate on ARod, Dear Roxy. Not that you needed any more, but just add it to the bunch.

The man people love to hate has given them more.

I, on the other hand, won’t say a thing bad about him.

Of course I’m disappointed. Very. I don’t think anyone should take any form of performance enhancing drugs. Alex’s talent speaks for itself - he didn’t need them to help him.
I’m very sorry to hear he did. And I’m very sorry that this, again, has put a dark cloud on the game of baseball.

Not only that, but now Miguel Tejada has plead guilty for lying to Congress about the same thing. When is it all going to stop?

And sticking with the game of baseball, there’s a story on the NY Post that claims Roberto Alomar had unprotected sex with his ex-girlfriend, although he knew he had AIDS. Is this true? Crazy.

I’m sorry to see him go – Bobby Abreu has signed a deal with the Angels. Have fun, Bobby.

Can I get any good news on the baseball front? I want to hear about baseball season starting - I want to smell the green grass, peanuts and crackerjacks. No more nonesense, please!

Brett Favre has decided to retire... again. This time, with no tears in his eyes. We shall miss you, Brett. Good luck!

And who cares about Ben and his "super powers". I certainly don't. Blah!

Blog Hog: Big Ben = Tough

All I have to say, as I blog hog, is that Ben is tough. I had no idea, Dear Criss, that he played in the Super Bowl with two fractured ribs. Reminds me of when Steve Young played with broken ribs. I sound old. (I remember when I was young ...)

"There wouldn't have been anything they could have done about fractured ribs anyway. It was just suck it up and play,'' he told Peter King at SI.

Wow.

P.S. Does the Miami-based Yankee PR rep. have anything to say?

A-Roid Indeed

Well, your darling #13 tested positive for steroids in 2003, Dear Criss. Lucky he will not be held accountable for that. So he was an MVP that season, too? Wow. I mean, you trash my fogie 'Tek, but I'll take my oldies but goodies any time. (You try squatting for five minutes, and tell me if you can do it.) I didn't need this story to help me form an opinion about this guy. And I'd rather not waste any more space on him. But I am disappointed UM put his name on Mark Light Stadium and will be honoring him this week. We're picking the wrong heroes.

The Phelps thing is so ridiculous. What was he thinking? "Hey, guys! Check this out. Take a picture, too!" Dork. Talk about embarrassing his mother, the principal of all things! I like him, and this doesn't really change my opinion about him, but he does need to mature a little bit. Hope he learned a lesson.

Finally, if Torre was with his close friends in his backyard, he would admit in a second that the best years of his life are happening right now in L.A.

Could you have blogged anymore than you did, Dear Roxy? Talk about blog hog!

To answer your questions, I rooted for the Cardinals. And yes, I was sad for Warner, Fitzgerald and Co. But there's nothing to be ashamed of. They had an amazing season - one that no one thought they would have, including me. They can look back at their amazing year and hope to continue along the same road the next.

And blah about Ben, but Congratulations to him and the Steelers for their win! They played very well. Argh.

And who cares about ancient Vtek? He should retire! I don't think he can squat down anymore. As a matter of fact, I think the Red Sox organization should hire an assistant to help him get up in between innings.

Regarding Torre, I can't make any accusations because I haven't read the book, and frankly, don't want to. I'll like to remember the years he spent with the Yankees as the best years of his life! hehe

In more important news, did you hear about our golden boy Phelps? Oh my. He's in trouble now. Knowing he's so famous, you would think he'd be more careful! They never learn. I feel bad for him though. Good luck, Mike!

Champs!

James Harrison running in a 100-yard interception for a touchdown.

Santonio Holmes gingerly keeping his feet inbounds for a key, game-winning touchdown.

Bruce singing "Born to Run."

The Pittsburgh school system allowing kids to come to school two-hours late.

Good stuff.

Did you see it, Dear Criss? My brother almost went to the other side. I don't know if I can even say "almost." So now, do tell. Who were you rooting for? Are you broke or rich today?

Alright. The Miami professional work system is not allowing workers to come in two-hours late, so I gotta go to bed. I'm thrilled for Tomlin, Ben, Santonio, Hines, Harrison - everyone on the Steelers. One for the other thumb.
